Our family loves the National Park system and Weir Farm is one of the hidden gems located in CT. The park is in a beautiful setting with very knowledgeable volunteers and rangers.
This park is different from the other national parks. At only 10 acres it was acquired by the National Parks Service when Mr. Weir donated the park after he died. It is comprised of his home, his art studio, a modern art studio where artists work all year around (they apply for time in the studio and then work there... 更多
I plan to return to this park next spring when the flowers are in bloom. Even late summer the grounds were lovely and the house and studios are exceptional - packed with artifacts and history! the grounds are lovely with lots of walking trails as well.
Lots to do at Weir Farm: easy nature hike to lake, plein air painting with free watercolor brushes/paints/materials, and occasional outdoor concerts in the summer. Great for kids and/or couples. Beautiful property.
Beautiful park--reminded me of Saint-Gaudens in NH. Visitors were encouraged to linger and enjoy the peaceful scenery. Additionally, the rangers had created an activity around the park with painted wooden Bison. If you find all 7 you can be sworn in as a Junior Ranger. It was a great way to explore the park.
Although most visitors ask themselves why this is a National Park, the grounds are pleasant and the tour through the house interesting. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.
Having lived in CT for 26 years, I had never visited this site. Tucked away in the community of Wilton, is this gem. A very peaceful and beautiful place! Be sure and schedule your visit so that you can take a tour of the house where the restoration is a work in progress, having only been opened since 2014. There... 更多
We visited Weir Farm about a month ago. It's an absolutely beautiful site! Love that they have paint sets available for anyone who wants to wander and try their hand at creating their own masterpiece. This is a National Historic Park, so it is staffed partially by park rangers. Both the rangers and the volunteer docents are friendly and knowledgeable.... 更多
Weir Farm is a gem! A lovely place to walk and enjoy nature, plus a fine opportunity to learn about J. Alden Weir, one of America's leading Impressionist painters.
I went to visit this attraction, I was surprised at the lack of signposting, it is not too easy to get there due to lack of sign posting, you need navigation devise to get there unless you live next door, the road is narrow and winding, i even driven past it without noticing because of lack of noticeable sign. no... 更多
