The history behind this ship is fascinating. The ship was underwater for 100 years before they brought it up and reconstructed it. absolutely worth a stop at the museum to watch the video about the receovery.

So happy to see history is being preserved if you are in Vicksburg you must see this. There's a beautiful National Cemetery there along with a museum with artifacts and the ship itself

The USS Cairo is so amazing to look at! Its a marvel, truly! I took dozens of pictures of all the unusual shapes and interesting patterns of the structure of the old iron-clad battleship. There is more to it than that, though, the history of this sunken battleship and its retrieval from the bottom of the river are equally immersive.

You can walk around and through the ironside. Nice small museum that shows the history of the ironsides and the personal belongings of the soldiers that were assigned to this ship. While no soldier died when the ironside went down, they did not have any time to collect their personal items.

What a sight to see. Amazing restored Cairo, after being under water. Liked being able to walk around on the boat. The museum is very interesting. Free admission. Donation box. Lots of artifacts. My hubby especially enjoyed the guns and cannons. Well worth the stop..

They have done an amazing job of restoring this sunken ship, allowing you to walk around and through. The museum is full of items they recovered. The size was bigger than expected, it's why you visit and not just look at pictures. Visiting this was my priority and I wasn't disappointed. A must see.

We didn't know anything about this until the park ranger said it was a bucket list item. Was well worth it if you get a chance.

Fascinating. As an engineer I was fascinated with the design of the boat, the steam drive system and the weaponry. Having visited the Arabia Steamboat Museum in Kansas City I know how the river mud can seal and preserve the artifacts as it did for the Cairo. It is like opening a time capsule and seeing the conditions and everyday... 更多

Cairo was a river gunboat sunk by a mine in December 1862. Rediscovered in the late 1950s, it was eventually brought to the river's surface and now has its own museum at the northern end of the Vicksburg siege lines. The old hull, or what is left of it, is there as are the cannon, engine, and the frame of... 更多
