Worth a stop if you are interested in Hawaiian history. The grounds are well kept and there are numerous other places to visit in the same general area.
It is important to know that if you are visiting Mauna Ala that it is a very special place to Hawaiian people and culture. It is the place where Hawaiian royalty is buried. I've come here a couple of times before: to see the grounds, the tombs, the crypt, the chapel. But, what about the inside of the chapel? This time, a friend somehow talked the groundskeeper(?) into letting us peek inside. Wow. If you visit The Bishop Museum and The Palace where Hawaii's last Queen lived before the Royal Family were thrown out of power, then make sure you check The Royal Mausoleum where the Queen and other members of the Royal Family were laid to rest. Not much to see, but the history is amazing.
