We passed this place twice before we found it - so does need better signage / marketing awareness. Bears are cute - enclosures are quirky - but seem roomy. Everyone seemed to be looked after. Shame Alaska does not have a rescue and release policy.
The Fortress was an excellent place to visit and safely view the bears. Two well informed workers answered questions and provided good info for visitors. Not time consuming unless you want it to be. We spent about an hour and that was plenty of time. Donations for upkeep and expansion appear to be appreciated, but not required.
Took a 7 day cruise to Alaska and Sitka was our 2nd stop. We didn't book any excursions so decided to check out the city. Once you arrive from the port to the bus stop, we saw a sign for a $10 per adult bus tour of the fortress of the bear and raptor center. I believe you can catch... 更多
Our group enjoyed photographing the bears for at least an hour. The staff was very knowledgeable and personable, they seemed to really love their job and talking to the guests.
We took the community bus [$3 for all-day ticket - what a deal!] out to this place that cares for bears that cannot be returned to the wild. It is very different from typical zoo enclosures, as the bears have a lot of room, and are very active! I don't know when feeding times are, but we were fortunate enough... 更多
We arrived at Fortress of the Bears first thing in the morning and there were only a few other guests. We really enjoyed the information shared by the host and watching the bears being fed. It was clear that the place is run by people who truly care about the bears and have genuine passion for what they do. This... 更多
This was my first time visiting this attraction and I've been to Sitka many times. It was so cool to see these rescued bears being cared for and used to teach people. You get to view them in a somewhat real forest setting. They would be dead without this rescue center.
These people are running the best bear exhibit I have ever seen. The bears are treated so well and so active that there is non-stop excitement. I watched one of the bears catch a live salmon and share it with his brother. This is not just a zoo where they sleep all day. These bears are as excited to see... 更多
My wife and I went alone away from the cruise ship and paid 20.00 for the bus and another 20.00 for the admission. Well worth it! If you take a cruise ship excursion it can cost as much a 200.00 for the same trip for a 1 hour visit. the bears were great and the caretakers were very nice and... 更多
This is a non-profit with a wonderful mission to help orphaned bear cubs - that alone is a good reason to visit since your small donation helps them. The bear keepers were very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. Although we saw bears in the wild, you'll never get the up-close photos and extensive viewing time as you get at... 更多
