This historic mission church is just a short distance from the main Plaza. It is a fascinating bit of the history of the old west - it is said to be the oldest church in the US.
Authentic mission that reminded me of similarly aged churches in Mexico. A bell dating back to 1536 is featured along with other artifacts. You can see some of the original masonry and plaster. There is a small gift shop with a pleasant proprietor at the entrance.
Visited on the Labour Day weekend. A tour guide was present and explained the fascinating history of this chapel and the role it played in the early years of settlement. She even invited my teenager to ring the bell (which she did!) Well worth the small admission fee to enter. The gift shop is also worth a visit.
All three of Santa Fe's churches are well worth the visit. Why not ? They are all so close together and are all very different. This one is the smallest and oldest but is also the one with more history dripping from the walls. Just go.

Asked for permission, and rang the old bell now inside. Very interesting stop. Does not take a lot of time, & is a short distance... 更多
We made a quick stop at the San Miguel Chapel after a visit to the oldest house. The church is significant in Santa Fe's history. I enjoyed the visit, although I wish there had been more historical information available. It is probably only a 15 minute visit but worth the time.
