Gates pass is a great place to sight see, take desert pictures, see Sahuaro cactus in in greatness and hike. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes/sturdy shoes and water if you get off the highway and into the mountain area.
On business here from florida I ride an indian chieftan and been over the pass every morning. Better ride than tail of the dragon great scenery and pull offs to take great pix
we made this drive our route to get to the arizona-sonora desert museum. good choice. the area is beautiful and so indicative of the area. at the top of the pass is a pull-out and view point worth stopping for. the road is in good condition and suitable for any car.
This is one of Tucson's most lovely attractions. The scenery is beautiful and one of the last places where you can see the thousands of cacti still standing proud! Bring a journal or book and enjoy letting all your worries and cares go!
A short drive from Tucson (on the way to the Desert Museum or Old Tucson), Gates Pass offers a scenic drive, great views, a good place for a break, and some local history.
This is a park that closes around dark - however when there is a full moon the park is open long enough to see the moon rising! It is incredible for wildlife. Every time I have gone I have seen either a couple ( coyotes) or Javalena's... In the road or on the side at sunset...
This is a fun "bonus" between Tucson proper and Old Tucson and the Arizona SOnora Desert Museum if you go west on Speedway. While there's nothing to do at the pass, per se, there is a parking lot and short hike, but mostly Gate's Pass is about the view.
