Very helpful!! Lady there knew everything you could want to know about Petersburg. One thing I learned while there was all restaurants in downtown Petersburg are private owners not franchises, so you really get a true taste of Petersburg!
Take any of the downtown exits and follow the signs to the information center, which is located in an old bank building. Really neat place to start in historical Petersburg. Two ladies there were a wealth of information and great guides to the area. Note: the building is not handicap accessible. Steep stairs to the restrooms.
Even if just stopping for a bathroom break on your way south on I-95, you'll get a quick super interesting tour of the oldest bank building in Virginia.
