We had a brilliant couple of hours here. The visitor centre has an excellent film which explains the sequence of events and how the final stages of the war unfolded. There are some interesting artefacts and a fascinating day by day record of the siege at Petersburg. Then we took the road tour, we didn't complete it as we started... 更多
First expect to spend 2-3 hours here if you plan on wanting to see everything. The tour starts off at the visitor center, and I recommend checking out the film (20 mins) before you start your walking tour of the grounds. There are eight key point of interest along the driving portion of the tour. I recommend taking time to... 更多
We were surprised to find there was no admission fee. The movie about the Siege of Petersburg at this site was excellent and very informative. The museum provides hands on viewing of the actual tools, weapons, clothing and field equipment. The Crater story and seeing the trenches and the crater were the highlights. The whole family will enjoy this.
We are big Civil war buffs and some ot the driving trails we have been on over the years are very confusing and lacking. This one is over 30 miles and very concise. Did not get confused once! The history and the suffering here is very humbling. God bless all the soldiers, both Blue and Gray!
We took the driving tour where we followed a park ranger who knew her stuff and wanted to share her knowledge at every stop. It is worth the trip to hear the history of the Crater. A lesson we should all learn.
We started our visit at the Eastern Front Visitor Center, and wended our way all across the Eastern and Western Front areas to try to get a feeling for the battlefield/siege site. It's just as well that we did. We got to see major areas (the Crater battle area is particularly striking -- and sad) and learn what we might... 更多
Note: Go to visitor center first to get a trail guide. A lot of options to hike around the park. Great visitor center with small but engaging exhibits. The visitor center intro video is informative, but very sad and graphic in content, may be tough for small kids. Some of the trail area closes during part of the year to... 更多
We visited the park in late September and almost had the place to ourselves. The park center is the standard offering from the park service, which is to say well done and stocked with information. We wanted in particular to see the Battle of the Crater site, which was fascinating to finally see. We then drove to City Point to... 更多
