We thought we were well prepared and tried to travel light. We travelled too light. At the end of the our hike we went into the visitor centre for general information and we were pleased to see that you could buy appropriate clothing for any weather conditions at reasonable prices. The staff was friendly and helpful too.
We loved walking around this place, we did the Meads wall walk and Hubby and I did a water fall on the way in to town. I also enjoyed a vigorous Morning walk with spectacular views and the reward of a wonderful waterfall (forget the name). Well worth the detour.
Not so much the centre - more the volcanoes! We've visited several times, but went with some of our family who have missed out on seeing the whole set of volcanoes because of the weather. this day they co-operated and we had excellent views of all 3 - lots of photos were taken. Helpful staff, lots of leaflets and a static display about the area so that you can choose walks to suit your ability. Refreshments available and plenty of scenic outlooks for you to take pictures of those stunning views - even better if you take the chair lift which is usually open in summer
The visitor center is excellent with helpful staff and good displays of the area and history. If you need to buy some warmer clothing for any walks they also have some available and it is not to expensive.
if you're a tourist and you've never been before than you'll find this interesting, but it will feel like 100,000 people have been there before you - because they have! It needs freshing up!
This place has all sorts of information on walk, climbs and attractions. The people are very helpful and the exhibits are also great. Certainly worth a visit if you are in the area.
Excellent Centre with helpful staff. Nice exhibits. Literature seems expensive. If you are visiting Mt Ruapehu or staying at the Chateau this is a must-visit place. You will get great ideas for hiking.
This place is setting the standard. Maps, clothing, displays about our native animals, and most importantly, a whole section about the Ruapehu eruptions of '95. This is where you must come to plan your walks around Tongariro National Park.
The Visitor Center is informative, has great exhibits and a nice store. My wife and I wound up there because the Tongariro Alpine Crossing was closed for the day due to the threat of lightning. A friend recommended the Tama Lakes hike, which starts near the Visitor Center. We were very impressed with the great condition of the trail. Tama... 更多
