At the tourist info office make sure you pick up an audio self guided driving tour. You drop the CD off as you leave the cemetery.. Lots of families histories. Definitely recommended
We drove through Historic Natchez Cemetery and enjoyed exploring the different family plots. This Cemetery has lots of history, with old headstones, many quite unique. The one way roads can be a bit tricky and are impassable with two vehicles, so it's important to try to be sure you are traveling in the right direction!
We came through Natchez just for an overnight stay but got in early enough to check out the visitor center. After looking at Trip Advisor we decided to tour the cemetery and rented the CD. I thought this might be a little hokey but was pleasantly surprised. The narration leads you through the cemetery and tells some interesting stories. But... 更多
This is a very old very large cemetery with hills, beautiful old landscaping, and a lot of old neat headstones. Very peaceful and well kept up. My mom used to take my brother and I here for picnics when I was a kid.
Drove thru while listening to CD (excellent). Can rent CD at Visitors Center in town for $15...bought if here for $20. Had our dog with us so stopped periodically as CD suggested. Very pleasant hour spent on a great weather day.
While this would be a wonderful place to visit without a guide, we highly recommend using the cd that is available. It tells stories, points out highlights, and gives a great overview of the most amazing cemetery in about an hour.
We rented the CD from the Visitors' Center and used it for the tour! Lots of personal stories about Natchez residents! Lots of old and very interesting markers and headstones!
Because of the weather (hot) there´s no better way then going on a sightseeing tour with a CD and drive the whole thing graveyard to graveyard and listen to funny, exciting and sad stories without missing the AC in your car. Who was ideas like that ?
I don't know about other people, but I love taking photos in cemeteries. The contrast of the white and grey stone with the green lawns is strikingly beautiful. I walked through, so I didn't get the audio tour that you can take if you drive. None the less, it was great to just wander and look at some of the... 更多
Graves going back to before the civil war. Elaborate markers, and some rather plain, all honoring thOse buried there. In a city where there were more millionaires than in nyc before the civil war it is easy to see that expense did not matter when they bought grave markers.
