If you can only hike one trail while in Mesa Verde National Park then Petroglyph Point Trail is the one to pick! Three of my grandchildren (ages 16, 13,and 10) and I visited Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado in August. We are not hikers but wanted to do a little hiking to take in the views, check out the cliff... 更多
The three-mile Petroglyph Trail was a hiking-boot trail for certain. Before beginning the hike, we purchased a trail guide that was useful in identifying trees and shrubs along the way. The first half of the trail involved three narrow passages that might trap hikers of excessive girth; we both traversed the passages safely. After what seemed an interminable time to... 更多
This hike was a bit challenging for me, but not difficult. The trail dips into the canyon, crosses to the other side, and begins to climb toward the ridge, which seems high above. After a couple of narrow spots, all of a sudden the petroglyphs are there! Easily visible, a few feet above the trail. The return to the trailhead... 更多
This was a very enjoyable hike to see a big wall full of interesting petroglyphs. I chose to do a loop as opposed to out and back. For me it was not a challenging hike but I am an avid hiker. There was a lot of changes in the scenery which I appreciated.
This hike was a loop throughout the park. It was listed as strenuous but I found it easily doable. I was disappointed that there were only a couple petroglyphs on the hike- was a bit anticlimactic. My partner enjoyed the walk much more but I would have rather spent my time driving the Mesa top loop as I found that... 更多
this is a challenging hike for me but very enjoyable. there is a point just past the petroglyphs that requires some climbing on all fours to get up. still a great southwest hike with all the interesting and beautiful plants and trees. you do need to check in with the rangers near the museum before starting on the hike.
Lots of cut-stone steps require plenty of exertion on this interesting hike. Pick up a brochure for a small donation; it will help you understand the geology, plant life, and way of living you will see along the way. Trail is exceptionally well marked but according to my fitness app significantly longer than the 2.4 miles indicated. The petroglyphs are... 更多
Depending on far you want to go up steps, there are quite a few petroglyphs that you can see and take photos. However, you can see many of them from the paths.
I thought this hike would never end! Lol it was great though! Very strenuous at times on the first half of the loop, but the views were amazing!! We saw a rabbit run right across the path. Took tons of pics. After you reach the petroglyphs, which were really cool to see, the worst is almost over. The second half... 更多
This hike affords a good perspective on life in the cliffs and also on top of the mesa. The hike is a loop, and be aware that the first half is in the cliffs/canyons and is involves stepping over lots of rocks and climbing. The second half is a breeze, because you are walking on top of the mesa and... 更多
