lots of interest here. Historical trails and markers. Interesting sites, amazing architecture. Fun foodie places, great beer joints, museums, etc. Lots of things happening, and things to see and do.
We spent the night in Shock Slip at the fabulous Berkeley Hotel. Hoping to get a nice dinner and window shop we took a walk around, but the area at night is very empty and a little creepy! The waterfront area is known as Shockoe, from an Indian word. Slip is associated with this area because the boats came here. It has a lot of buildings with architecture to be admired and a lot of history.
Start of the Richmond Renaissance, now one of many older areas which have undergone re-hab. More in Process. Shops, restaurants, residences, galleries... etc. etc. Fun to walk through.
If you're expecting scenery like San Antonio's Riverwalk, forget it. This is a neighborhood with some cobblestone streets and charming old buildings with restaurants that cater to the Financial District next door. But the canal area itself is not very scenic.
This is a fun place to go if you want to walk from restaurant to restaurant or a pub or gift shops, as there is a bit of everything in this area.Ladies wear comfy shoes as the streets are cobbled and if you plan on doing a lot of walking you don't need to break a leg..literally .! The tobacco... 更多
Shockoe (flat rocks) is a wonderful area in Richmond to do a walking tour...see the islands, maybe herons in a rookery and find good places to eat and do canal boat tour......FUN
The area was interesting with some art in the area. By the canal we passed an old building with painting on the wall that was fun. Numerous restaurants, small art galleries and night spots. This is a great area for enjoying food, art work and a night out at The Tobacco Company Restaurant.
