One of the more interesting facts about this splendid old building was revealed by a grizzled old bus driver, waiting for his gaggle of school kids to return. "This building used to be four stories tall," he said, "but they cut it down to two." It turns out he was correct. This building has been carefully restored, more or less... 更多
The staff met you at the door and offered information from the get go. You walk through on your own but the staff are always close by to answer any questions they are both informative and friendly. This is a free site donations are accepted.
The Old State Capitol is a great piece of Illinois history. It is not a large structure as you might have imagined and can be quickly toured when visiting other sites in Springfield.
The rooms within the Old State Capitol look they way they did when Lincoln practiced law in Springfield. The building was completely reconstructed in the 1960’s and contains hundreds of historical artifacts that give you a terrific picture of what life was like back in the1800‘s. After Lincoln’s death in 1865, his body lay in state in the Hall of... 更多
We visited during the 150th Anniversary of Lincoln's Burial and tho it was busy with many spectators, the Staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Amazing site.
You can't help but notice this building as you are travelling into the capitol complex in downtown Springfield. The place is nicely kept up, the exterior is beautiful and there is a lot of historical things on the inside. Take your time and enjoy the walk back in time.
This was the best. The rooms are set up as if Lincoln would be walking in at any time. The outside is impressive with the giant sandstone columns outside.
We were in town for the 150 th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's funeral. We went into the old capital and were very impressed. There was a very convincing Abe there posing for photos. I don't know if he is always there or was there because of the celebration. We were in a hurry and I wish we would have had... 更多
Lovely building with loads of history. Nicely done exhibits, with period furniture and descriptions. The architectural detail in the building is amazing, and I really wanted to climb up into the cupola but that was blocked off. We were there during the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's death, so there were many people in period costume who were happy to share... 更多
We had a very interesting guide that helped us see the history that happened here. The building was very well preserved and a tribute to the people that built it over a hundred and fifty years ago. Beautiful presurved architecure and so much history.
It was a special time to roam the small Old State Capitol, stand near and view things that we know Mr. Lincoln saw, view them as he saw them, and feel his presence in that site.
We had difficulty arranging our schedule (building is only open Wed-Sat) but it was worth the effort. So much history in one place! Docents were engaging and informative. Only downside was we arrived the same time as a group of elementary school children and the tour was geared to a very young audience. We ended up separating from the group... 更多
I think that this is the number one Lincoln attraction in Springfield. The Lincoln Museum is great, but this is the place where you feel like "Lincoln was here".
