I grew up in this neighborhood, back when it was safe and sane and largely just the street for the university crowd, with funky shops and equally funky people. Alas, it has become a draw for homeless and meth-heads, and while I feel for both these groups, the constant panhandling detracts from the pleasure of what used to be a... 更多
Two excellent things you could do when visiting the University District. The farmers market on Saturday is one of the two year round farmers markets in the city. It's excellent this time of you. Another gem is Hatha Yoga Center on the corner of 47th & University Way. One of the best yoga studios in the city.
We walked through the district on the way to the university and we found alarming changes. Places that we had eaten at in the past are now empty and will be torn down and replaced with apartments. We also found more homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks but we didn't run into any trouble. There are still restaurants and shops... 更多
Yes, you'll see everything in the U-District, except big retail and high end destinations. What I love about the Ave and the area around is the mix of book stores, college-budget shops AND more ethnic diversity in the restaurants than you'll find in the International District.
Here's what I LOVE about the district. It is such a breathing changing place and yet...always kind of the same. People ceomplain about the homeless asking for "spare change", while in the 60s people were more upset about the kids who would quietly inquireas you passed by "acid, grass, speed". And run down? Are we forgetting the Coffee Coral, or... 更多
Funky, gritty, not huge but enough blocks on several streets to provide small shops and eateries for most tastes. Best understood on foot, and parking isn't too tight (yet) so you can leave your car within 3-5 blocks of where you want to explore. Good bus service from downtown. Not as many bookstores and music stores as there once were,... 更多
There is so much to see and do here which you would expect as it surrounds the University of Washington Campus. Lots of great restaurants with every type of food you can imagine, tons of retail and like the food scene, a bit of everything, the Burke museum, sports, parks and so much more. There always seems to be events... 更多
The U District is full of food places for the mighty hungry! Students hanging out, street music and conversations to be had. And the wonderful smell of Pacalolo because now it's legal! Reminded me of home, Pahoa, Hawaii. Recreation store clerks friendly and don't make you feel like a criminal ;) But I especially love the conversations you'll hear just... 更多
