What a neat place! There are several floors of displays to explore. The main floor shows about Nordic emigration to the U.S. The upper floor has individual display rooms for each Nordic country: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland. Very cool little gift shop. The museum has been housed in this old school building since 1980. The new facility will... 更多
So glad I decided to spend some time here. It was much bigger than I thought it would be. Loved that it is an old schoolhouse. It will be even better at the new location. Was like being with my Grandmother again who was an immigrant from Denmark. Staff is really nice. Gift shop had some great items.
You can count on the Nordic Heritage Museum to consistently have thought provoking contemporary exhibits that inspire. Not only do they have stunning exhibits on site but coordinated with the Frye to exhibit the stellar Hammershøi exhibit that SAM turned away. The Nordic Knitting Conference, drawing teachers and students from around the world, held at the museum is a tangible... 更多
This museum is located in an old school in the heart of Ballard, what my Dad used to call Seattle's "Snoose Junction". On the top floor are rooms dedicated to each of the Scandinavian nations; Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway & Sweden, curated by heritage groups of locals. It was fun to compare and contrast the cultures. They so heavily influenced... 更多
Had a couple of hours to enjoy to myself and this little gem had been on my radar for awhile. I had no idea there was such a rich Nordic heritage here in my hometown. Many different rooms staged with all the items you might find at the Washington State History Museum or the MOHAI. Plenty of hands on exhibits... 更多
Being that our family's Danish, and the museum was in walking distance of where we were staying, we had to check this place out. So glad we did! So much history and the displays were interesting (many kid-friendly). Very friendly volunteers, too!
The Nordic Heritage Museum is much more than we anticipated. Throughout the first floor, curators have worked very hard to portray the Nordic immigration experience, especially as framed by the Pacific Northwest, in a very personal way. The third floor has extensive collections from each of the ethnic groups represented in its own room. The museum's Finland room has fun... 更多
I guess that soon depends on how you chose to define it. The museum is currently in an old school and it's fine and full of interesting stuff some of which is categorized by ethic group. The coming to America walk through is a treasure - it's interesting and will keep the younger museum goers interested in a way that... 更多
