Offering beautiful, changing views throughout your walk, with a lot of bonuses composed of mainly salmon-berries, this mountain might fit (almost) all hikers: you may go on- or off-track to explore the area. Jeep trail is a wide, dirt road that climbs up the mountain (it starts steep, but don't give up - it becomes easier...), and is accessible for... 更多
My husband and our 16 year-old daughter decided to hike up Mt. Marathon while our other daughter (12) and I stayed back at the cottage to cook dinner. They came back so dirty, but with the biggest smiles! They said it was quite a challenge (especially since they took a wrong turn at one point), but so worth it. The... 更多
Mt. Marathon dominates the scenery in and around Seward. It is the location of the famous annual Fourth of July foot race held every year in Seward. This annual event involves running to the top and back down in less than one hour! Last year's record was under 50 minutes. This event fills the Seward area totally and completely. Truly... 更多
It is a docile looking mountain but don't let it fool you. Go with someone who know a thing or two about the mountain. There are sections of steep climbs. The views are absolutely breath-taking but you are never far away from a mis-step. Take a good hiking shoes and be prepared to be exhausted. You have to be in... 更多
Three of us hiked the mountain, it was hard and fun. It rained and then the sun came out and it was beautiful, at the Bowl, there is snow and a spectacular view.
There are actually two trails up Marathon...the one the locals talk about which some drunk dude did in 62 minutes and the one they ask the tourists to take because the first one is EXTREME in all capital letters. Even the "hike" version of the trail is strenuous, but the views are absolutely worth it! It's broken up into three... 更多
If you are into hiking on an extreme scale, this is one for your list. There is also an easier Jeep trail to the top but if you follow the typical 5k route to the top you will have one heck of a workout and a view you really earned. The direct route (or race route) is not for everyone,... 更多
If you love to hike, and I mean strenuous hike, then go to Mt. Marathon. You park along the street at First Avenue and Monroe. The hike begins with three steep hills. Then it levels off. That's about as far as I went (check out the waterfall) and don't forget to take water to drink.
Great hike. I can't believe people do it in less than an hour. I'm 50 and in not too bad of shape (except for the beer gut :) ) We did it in work boots and Carharts! Definitely STEEP and great views. I suggest wearing pants, if you fall on the shale rocks while RUNNING down you're going to get... 更多
