We got here via the water taxi (a 50-minute ride). We spent three days on the larger island, as part of the Backcountry Safari sea kayaking tour. The area is GORGEOUS!! amazing day kayaking around bear glacier and listening to the ice crack and move. would highly recommend this to anyone traveling who wants a unique experience.
We saw this glacier on a 5-hour cruise of Resurrection Bay with Major Marine Tours. The boat cannot get very close to the glacier so we saw it from a distance. While on a tour to Holgate glacier we passed this glacier, Bear Glacier. I couldn't hear what the tour guide was saying but I turned and saw this glacier and said "Awe". While far from being the largest glacier or most well known, I thought it was absolutely stunning!
We went to many glaciers in Alaska, but nothing compares to kayaking along the huge, magnificent icebergs in Bear Glacier. Seriously: do it!! Only one or two companies go there. So it's like a secret amazing place! No crowds. The lake is gigantic and the icebergs are blue, as tall as a house. It's impressive. We went with Liquid Adventures.... 更多
This was a tremendously beautiful hike. We were the only ones on the trail and it was super quiet there. We were able to go all the way up to the glacier which made for great photos. Some areas are fairly steep, but I did it with a toddler on my back, so not an impossible climb.
