Stopped here as part of our city tour. Very interesting place to visit. Was interesting to see how the dead is laid to rest. I found the tombs in the walls of these "Cities of the Dead" interesting. Walk around and read the names and dates fir the family tombs. Many generations resting in the same place.
I really wanted to see the St Louis Cemetery #1 but due to some vandalism it was closed to the public when we were there. This was a really good substitute. Our tour guide explained the purpose of the above-ground crypts and also told us about the smaller single crypts stacked 4 high along the edge of the cemetery. He... 更多
New Orleans has lots of historic cemeteries dotted all over the city, St Louis #3 is so well kept. Beautifully maintained and very popular with tour bus charters. The tombs are very beautiful, some are unique. Great start to your day before the heat sets in.
Not having the same water table as us it was fascinating to visit this cemetery to realise why the graves were all above the ground. Also to see the holding storage area and reasons behind it.
We booked a 2 City tour which included 20 minutes at the St Louis Cemetery. To start with we didn't really care for this part of the tour but ended up finding it really interesting. Even if you don't think you will like it, get of the coach and listen to what the Tour Guide has to say - you... 更多
We find it interesting to visit these places, because of the tombs and mausoleums architecture, and because of the city history we learn behind the names and dates. Maybe with a good guide it could have been a more informative experience (we were alone), but nevertheless a nice 30 minute walk.
This is not your usual cemetery with tombstones and grave markers. Unique to New Orleans in North America, but certainly not to South America or many European countries, are the above ground tombs and mausoleums that house the graves of family members and religious orders. It is no wonder, with the high water level and the threat of flooding from... 更多
I saw this cemetery with a tour group that was led by a very mediocre tour guide, (she was new on the job), so it was not as good as it could have been. The cemetery itself is large and chock full of history, so perhaps it would have been better if done as a self-guided tour. Anyway, the sights... 更多
