I was able to walk around the square early while waiting for the Truman Visitor center to open. As it was winter hours some of the sites in the area were not open. Lots of little shops to browse through.
This is a quaint little spot in Independence. Known for the "Square" so make sure you go and visit. Cafes are good and so are the shops :) Enjoy!
Gilbert Whitney is actually my favorite store on the Independence Square. Lots of little knickknacks and home goods that are unique and it's a great shopping for presents. If you visit the Independence Square in late spring through summer on Saturday's, you can visit the mid-1800's. There are free basic rides and paid for tour rides on wagons available as well as characters in 1800's clothing walking about the square. If you are going to or through Kansas City you need to stop at Independence Mo. and visit President Harry S. Truman"s home town. There is a lot of interesting history to see fun for the whole family. And it's not far off the main highway I-70.
