There is a lot of history in eastern Kansas. Much of it, sadly, is a bit bloody, and this is a remnant from those days. It is amazing to stand in buildings that were once infamous during Bleeding Kansas, to set foot into barracks, etc. The buildings are beautifully and authentically restored, and well worth a visit. They have people... 更多
We would've spent more time exploring this beautifully restored fort except for the bumper crop of ragweed at the edge of the grounds. We enjoyed watching the flag raised that morning. Good family outing.
You guys, this national park has a camp that is a best-kept secret. It doesn't sound very exciting maybe, but my boys LOVED it. It's Monday-Friday, just in the mornings, and the kids get to do all sorts of things to do with: national parks, historic living, conservation, and more. As just a national park, this is a classic fort... 更多
We went on an amazingly hot day and so we're relieved that several of the buildings were air conditioned. It is an easy self tour with lots of interactive displays. We overheard a tour going on and the guide was animated and had lots of interesting details. This is right next to the attractive downtown with cute stores. It is... 更多
We visited Fort Scott NPS in late July 2016. It was an easy day trip from our home in north Kansas City. Having recently driven "out west" and visited several old military forts, I was surprised at the condition of Ft Scott. The buildings are in great shape as compared to the "ruins" at some forts. Ft Scott's buildings are... 更多
Beautiful fort that has been lovingly maintained and restored! Most of the buildings are original and what is not has been restored near perfectly! The Rangers on duty are very knowledgeable and helpful with any questions! An easily accessible treasure of our states/countries history!
Fort is well restored, just not that interesting. Nothing of major historic significance actually happened here but it was interesting to read about the other events happening in Kansas and Missouri during the time period. It was worth the hour we spent there but not much more.
Unfortunately we were pressed for time and it was HOT, but this is an interesting preservation of our early frontier and Civil War history. The Fort was established to keep the peace with the American Natives to ensure an Indian Territory until the frontier began to expand. The Fort also assisted with conflicts along the Oregon and Santa Fe trails.... 更多
This is an interesting and easy stop between KC and Joplin. The self guided park is well done and would be fascinating to anyone who has a special interest in this area. The fort had a part in four different periods of our nation's history from the Expansion forward. It's adjacent (across the street) to a charming downtown area with... 更多
We have been visiting Fort Scott to see family for 40 years. This visit we did a few extracurricular things. The actual fort that the city is named after is right downtown. The original town appears to have a grid pattern and is easy to navigate on foot. From the Fort to around 6th street, there are country stores, a... 更多
