The Edgar Allan Poe House, a National Historic Landmark, is open to...

The Edgar Allan Poe House, a National Historic Landmark, is open to visitors on a seasonal schedule. Poe's home is in an excellent state of preservation with much of the exterior and interior original fabric from the 1833-1835 period when Edgar lived there with his aunt, grandmother and two cousins. While the house is not furnished, visitors walk on the same floors, stairs and wander within the original plaster walls and woodwork that Edgar experienced when he lived in this house, the very place where he launched his renowned career. (Note: the house is a short walking/driving distance to Poe's grave, and about three miles from where he died, so it is an easy tour to complete on your own in an afternoon.) Exhibits tell the story of Edgar Allan Poe's life and death in Baltimore and significant artifacts such as Edgar's portable writing desk and chair, and a telescope, china and glassware used by Edgar when living with the Allan family in Richmond, Virginia. Changing exhibits and tours are scheduled from time to time. Poe Baltimore is an affiliate of the American Writers Museum. To learn more about our many special events and interesting facts, become a fan on Facebook: Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum / Poe Baltimore. An Important Note to Visitors: There are no restroom facilities in the House and Museum (though we can recommend nearby facilities.) The House is not accessible to handicapped visitors but a video tour will be available on this website and at the Museum. The House is small with tight winding staircases and may not be suitable for all visitors.

The Poe house is about a 5 minute drive from the harbour and worth the visit. It really doesn't take long to go through the small house but you'll meet dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers who are eager to talk to you about his life and the history of the house. Highly suggest.

The staff at the Poe's home in Baltimore is simply super nice and friendly. Thanks Trevor for the prescious information! We stopped on our way back from Washington. We appreciate that they do our best in promoting the museum, bringing people from all around the world there, breaking the isolation of the neighborhood. Grazie

The Poe House is just exceptional--a true labor of love between a single staff member and dedicated volunteers. It is very small--impossibly small--and really drives home the way that people of limited means lived in the early-min 19th-century. The guides were so knowledgeable and friendly. We only spent 15 minutes there ( plus another 10 outside trying to get picture... 更多

My brother the writer came to visit, wanted to see the house. First tip, the street signs directing you here are for cars trying to navigate the one way streets. If you walk, get the address and you will get there faster. The location is in the neighborhood featured in the HBO Series "The Wire" as "the low rises". Parts... 更多

For those interested in Poe there is a lot of good information, a few artifacts, and an insight into the poet's life. Worth the visit. Many folks comment on the neighborhood as being "dodgy" it is in a urban environment of less privileged that is true. It is not scary. Homeless people may ask for money, but that happens in... 更多

Not much here. Staff were very nice, tour was nice too. But it's just a restored house, even though it was Poe who lived here. We got more out of his gravesite to be honest with you.

You will get a great feel for what it must have been like for Poe to live here and write. Sadly this area is not safe, and you must park in front of the museum. You cannot walk around outside the area as it is run down. The interior of the museum has been preserved as Poe would have known... 更多

I was pleasantly surprised by this attraction. You get to walk through all levels of the house except the basement and can really get a feel for what it must have been like to live here. It's a $5 donation to tour - pay it to support the attraction and the work going on.

I'm a huge Poe fan and traveled from DC for the day just to visit this site. It did not disappoint. The house is very small, only about 600 sq ft, but you can visit the first and second floors plus peek into the tiny room on the third level. They do a nice job of explaining his home life... 更多

My family and I just happened to be in Baltimore and passed by the EAP house and museum by chance and decided to to take a look; what a GREAT experience! The front desk reception person was very welcoming and informative, the volunteer on the second floor was a great historian as well as. The space/house is tiny but you... 更多
