When Fort Larned was restored, understand local collections went to this museum, financed by local residents. Small collection, but they do an excellent job with an annual budget of only $100k (I'm a past board member of a private regional museum in the NE with an annual budget of $5 million). we just visited this museum on our way to western Kansas. we stopped and went inside, there are some renovations going on, so I believe some of the exhibits were not on display. the outside is interesting and well maintained. would definitely stop if you happen to drive by.
This place is out in the middle of know where, and really does not focus on the history, that people that are interesting to people

What a wonderful museum of the early west! A variety of buildings and exhibits. My husband enjoyed the railroad display and the old cars and farm machinery. The staff were very helpful and exceptionally pleasant. Well worth the time!
Stopped in while doing a bike ride. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The exhibits give a good overall look at life on the prairie. Wish I had more time to look at the other buildings. Admission price was inexpensive for the quality of the exhibits.
