We made a quick stop in to the Davis Mountains State Park when visiting Marfa, Fort Davis and Alpine. The views from the scenic overlook in the park are absolutely breathtaking. The overlook can be accessed by hiking or vehicle. The park entrance fees are on par with other Texas state parks, and when we went (during the week on... 更多
My husband and I hiked the Indian Lodge Loop Trail. We enjoyed the many high viewpoints of the countryside. We also enjoyed a very nice bird blind along the main road of the park. It was very well done with lots of birds present--very relaxing to sit there and watch.
You can tent camp here or bring your RV. We stayed in the Indian Lodge inside the park. There are paved roads with walking trails off the road. YOu can take the Skyline drive up to the top of a mountain and get incredible views. Or you can get up there at night to take night sky and star photos.... 更多
Viewing sunsets & sunrises & panoramic vistas from the top of Skyline Drive would be worth the trip in itself! The Park trails are well laid out and are in the easy to moderately difficult range. The trail from the top of Skyline Drive down to the Ft. Davis National Historical Site is a must. I also like the trail... 更多
wonderful food - breakfast, lunch & dinner - especially enjoyed the soups - we were able to split an entree which was nice - and the soup/salad buffet comes with the meal.
Davis Mountains State Park is a fun place to camp and bird watch. We camped there the weekend after Thanksgiving. It was cold at night but sunny and warm during the day. Tara Poloskey the interpretative ranger led a bird walk in the primitive area across from the main park on Saturday morning. There is a new 13 mile backpacking... 更多
Beautiful driving through the mountains. They are very different from other mountain ranges and have been there several times before.
My wife and I and a couple of friends spent two wonderful days hiking at Davis Mountains State Park. Our stay was excellent. It wasn't until 2 days later that I realized that I had misplaced one of my coats. I called the park headquarters and was delighted to hear they had my coat. Later they mailed it to me... 更多
The Davis Mountains are an oasis. In summer, the days are cooler than other parts of Texas and the nights are deliciously chilly. It is beautiful and quiet. The history is magnificent. Easy to understand why people have lived here for thousands of years!
