Great experience to tour a fort used by the Buffalo soldiers. Good museum, clean bathrooms, and beautiful location for a fort. The hospital, commissary, enlisted barracks, and commander's quarters are must sees. A ranger even enlisted my group's help in lowering the flag at the end of the day. In doing that we got an education in what each fold... 更多
Great history! The exhibits that are set up for viewing are awesome. Really enjoyed walking around the Fort. We took a hike up the the overlook, and then took the outer trail for more hiking. It was beautiful! Don't miss out on the hiking trail!
Wonderful place 2 visit!!! Very clean and well-kept. Employees very knowledgeable of the restored re-creation of the American West. Be careful of wildlife on the trail (i.e., rattlesnakes, wild boars, etc.).
We were a bit rushed because the winds were about 9 kagillion mph that day. Otherwise everyone working there wanted you to learn. Lots to see, lots to learn.
Fort Davis captures the period of American West. Walking the grounds one can imagine the cavalry parading on the field. The restored buildings shows visitors living conditions in this remote wilderness. The national park staff are experts on the Fort's history and personnel occupying the Fort. Side note - for individuals over 62yo the National Park Service has a new... 更多
Beautifully restored fort that shows the daily life of the soldiers, families and civilians. A very good video gives the history of the fort and the part it played in history. Visit the commissary and listen to the actual comments of the solders and wives as they struggle to obtain decent and fresh food, especially the letter by one of... 更多
This fort, both restored and unrestored parts, was quite interesting. The pre-teens were intrigued by the furnishings that gave a glimpse into fort life, as well as the story of the buffalo soldiers. Their book selection was excellent and we all enjoyed it.
We showed up just in time to go on a guided tour by one of the park rangers. Normally, we don't take guided tours, instead, we enjoy wondering around at our own pace, but we were both glad we went on this one. The ranger was friendly and knew what he was talking about. Fort Davis is very rich in... 更多
We ventured here for a day trip from Marfa, which is a little over 20 miles away. It so happened that they were having an open house, so the self-guided tour was free. They were also having a fun run, so we got to see their cannon fired as the starting gun for the race, The fort was built as... 更多
Fort was excellent. Kids enjoyed the restored buildings and seeing how people lived "way back when". Wish we had enough time for some of the many hikes there. Gorgeous scenery. Also has a range of activities for kids, including Junior Ranger program and Scout program options.
