The SPRNCA is practically in my back yard. I live eight miles west of the Hereford Bridge trail head parking lot. It's a long-distance trail that starts at the Mexican border, then meanders northward along or near the river. In the fall one can see lots of raptors. It's a popular spot for birders, equestrians and dog walkers. (It's also... 更多
Pleasant easy walk along the river bank. Saw a few birds, but I suspect not the best time for birdwatching. Enjoyed (own) lunch on one of the picknick areas.
Went to see schedule hummingbird banding. The volunteers explained what they were doing and the purpose of the banding. You should get there about 45 minutes before the scheduled start time to get a number to release a banded bird that is placed in your palm. The banding is scheduled for two hours.
The migratory path of millions of birds passes over the SPRNCA/San Pedro River twice a year. The walks along the river are great any time and really change with the season. For birders, if they choose their season, it's paradise.
If you want to see the San Pedro River, this is the best crossing to stop at. The walk from the San Pedro House to the river is short, and the river is easy to find. When we went in June the river was barely running, but the huge cottonwoods make it a shady and wonderful place to linger, and... 更多
This was the first time we visited this area in May. An early morning walk starting around 7 am was very productive for finding birds. The walk is about 2 miles, but it is relatively flat. The areas near the river are particularly good for finding birds. The gift shop always has a nice selection of gifts and many books.... 更多
This is a great place to hike along the San Pedro River. We saw many birds including a snoozing Screech Owl right near the visitor center. We also saw deer during our hike. Look for the docent guided hike it was wonderful and our guide mixed in the right amount of bird viewing... we did not take the bird specific... 更多
We visited the San Pedro House and hiked to the river. As it was February, the cottonwoods were just beginning to show a haze of green. Although it was the wrong time of year for fantastic birding, we still saw many new to us. The staff was very helpful and the gift shop well stocked with nature gifts! We will... 更多
Skip is high winds prevail and go to one of the many nearby canyons. You can contact one of several guides for the area if unsure of where to go.
We had a great day bird watching and visiting with the staff. Nice trails good interpretation. Many other friendly folks visiting the site
