Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house and converted into a day hotel in 1826, the Museum transports visitors back to a 19th-century country resort for New Yorkers escaping the crowded city below 14th Street. Enjoy a guided tour of eight period rooms, browse in the gift shop, and linger in the secret garden.

Small (you can see it all in an hour or two), interesting, unusual. I'm not sure I'd cross Manhattan for it but if you're in the neighborhood it's definitely worth checking out. My younger daughter particularly loves museums with furnished historical rooms and the guides have a range of expertise and lots of random but interesting insights. (We learned a... 更多

This out of the way house and garden, built in 1826, represent an unusual piece of 19th Century history for New york City. A day when a quiet trip to this "Day Hotel" in a distant part of Manhattan via horseback, horse drawn carriage, or a boat up the East River from the populated lower end was a big adventure.... 更多

This is one of the few surviving historic mansions in New York. Once upon a time it was a hotel outside the city. I loved the garden. It is a good place to visit for 18th century American history fans and good place to visit with the kids to give them interactive history lesson (they actually have period kids' toys).... 更多

An amazing discovery in the depths of Manhattan with good view of cable car to Roosevelt Island. Very peaceful and the garden seems to be always open. The building is fun to explore, as well, and from time there are special events. This weekend, for example: actual newspaper account, an unidentified skeleton has been discovered at the Mount Vernon Hotel.... 更多

We Googled 'Historical Houses' and came up with this one which was open on the Tuesday we were looking for something historical to do. It was a lovely "Day Hotel". It is a last remnant of the past on the block. We rang the bell and they asked if we wanted the tour. We paid (a very reasonable price) and... 更多

A building, a beautiful building from 1799 hidden among the skyscrapers with a view of the lovely Queens bridge and the cable car to Roosevelt Island. Simply a must see....

The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum on 61st Street on the Upper East Side, between 1st Avenue and York Avenue, was built in 1799, and is thus one of Manhattan's oldest buildings. Visiting is highly recommended; an interesting guided tour is given. The garden is pleasant too.

Difficult to walk past this building without wondering about its past. Learning the history of New York City, envisioning this building looking over the pristine East River surrounded by lush undeveloped land, is always thought provoking. The people who visited this inn, eating fresh oysters, pies baking, parlor games, music- will those to come look back and wonder about our... 更多

Lived here all my life and never knew this existed! Great docent gave us an enjoyable, informative, and fascinating tour and glimpse into 19th century life. An oasis in the big city.

The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum was built in 1799 as a carriage house, and converted into a hotel in the 1820’s. Nestled on a piece of property once owned by John Adams’ daughter, Abigail Adams Smith, the hotel is on E. 61st Street near the East River. This area was once four miles north of the city and considered the...
