This drive should be taken early in the day, to take advantage of morning sunlight for best picture taking. There are great views of cliff dwellings, and great views of the canyon. Please remember to take your binoculars, and take time to absorb the beauty of this special place.
We did this drive in the early evening and the light was wonderful - virtually no one else around and so also very peaceful as the sun set.
Nice views of several caves and ruins. If you have extra 30-50 minutes after more popular South Rim Drive, it's not a bad idea to look here as well.

I enjoyed the drive around the north rim but to be honest there are far more interesting views from the other side. The views of the caves are interesting and if you have managed to get some of the history then being there brings it alive.
There is a fewer overlooks then on a south rim but also very nice and we was completely alone there.Nobody,no Navajos,no turists just we canyon and silence. We enjoyed it so much.
