The scope and selection of traditional Japanese folkcraft selected from their vast collection was impressive for their special exhibit. It shows a wonderful representation of traditional folk articles from Japan that was well organized and artistically displayed. It was as good as any exhibit I have seen anywhere in Japan. Exhibit is showing until 10/2/16. Great gift shop with items... 更多
The Admission: $10 for adult. Dynamic exhibitions of art of the world and art of the people. Now the exhibit is about traditional dolls and toys of Japan and African bead and adornment. Very interesting! There is a coffee shop next door and a few tables in front of the shop. Perfect place to take a break after visiting the... 更多
This was my favorite of all of the museums in Balboa Park. The focus of the museum is "everyday objects", but they have selected wonderful examples across a wide range of arts and crafts. There were several temporary exhibits in addition to the permanent collection. There were a few exhibits which would interest younger children, but in general this is... 更多
Set in the beautiful Balboa Park precinct. Has fixed and changing exhibitions of a wide range of crafts. Enjoyed the American crafts section. Best aspect was the Goulden Baby House, with a lengthy video interview with John Darcy Noble describing details of the House. Has a cafe and shop with some nice pieces. Very enjoyable afternoon.
The Mingei is a difficult museum to review. It focuses on artful objects that people use in everyday life. I don't believe there are permanent exhibits, but they regularly rotate exhibits, so your enjoyment might depend on whether they have an exhibit you would enjoy. They currently have exhibits on asafo flags on Ghana and iconic crafts from the 50... 更多
If you can go to only one museum in Balboa Park, and you like crafts, make this your stop. There were two special temporary exhibits and a permanent collection of American Crafts. Excellent.
We enjoyed the Made in America Exhibit that was highlighting craft items from the 50 states, Of course Texas was our favorite. It was neat to see the various exhibits for the states. On the international side, the Japanese display was cute.
I was expecting more international displays, but I was not disappointed at all with what I did see. The current exhibit was the Made in America exhibit which had interesting displays from each of the 50 states. It was something that was supposed to represent each state. The first display that I saw as I entered the room was the... 更多
