The fort is a recreation of William Bent's fort and trading post. It tells a great story of the original settlement of the area and the relationship with the Indians. It also shows the importance of the fort for travelers on the Santa Fe Trail. Don't miss this if anywhere close!
This is an awesome place to visit! Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site reconstructs an 1840s post where traders and Indian tribes came peacefully to trade. The place is just like going back to the past, the staff is nice and friendly and they are dresses according to that period of time.
We have visited the fort many times over 30 years and each has been special and informative. Not often does the opportunity arise to have a meeting at such a special place. We had the meeting in the dining room, complete with a lovely fire Freezing temperatures made this even more authentic and this girl more appreciative of the folks... 更多
GREAT SCOTT, as doc Brown would say. This place is a time machine, you have to see it to believe it, and allow several hours. If you have any imagination you will be in 1846 and see what it was like. Look south across the river into 1846 Mexico, and smell the smoke of the fires. The bookstore has books... 更多
Another Outstanding NPS historic site. This NHS is truly done right, the vehicles are parked at some distance to the site and you arrive at the Fort as if you were coming on the Santa Fe Trail in the 1840s. The attention to detail in the recreated fort and the rangers make this a truly outstanding experience. We spent over... 更多
We work for parks & have been to countless forts & whatnot, but this one was special. The fort (trading post & Santa Fe trail oasis rather than a military installment) is a recreation of the original, based on meticulous records & drawings by a man who stayed there back in its heyday, so it's very well done & feels... 更多
Useful insight into the early years of the frontier era and the Santa Fe trail. Rangers dressed in period clothing work as carpenters, blacksmiths, wheel-smiths etc. Excellent guided tours by the Rangers are given twice a day. An enjoyable outing.
We did a self-guided tour of the fort. It was very interesting and we spent about 2 hours total. Nice gift shop. Plus, the admission to the fort was free for the National Park Service Centennial Celebration. A grand day!
I've lived in Colorado full time since 1995 and even went to school in Pueblo and never got out to Bent's Fort! Well, finally, I forced my family to make the drive with me from Colorado Springs and we were not disappointed! The only problem we had was that 2 huge buses of children pulled up right behind us so... 更多
Bents Old Fort is a reconstructed 1840’s historic fur trading post. It is located somewhat out of the way, being about an hour and half drive east of Pueblo but very worthwhile; a nice, family oriented stop. By chance, we visited on Hispanic heritage day, the many volunteers were very knowledgeable and there were many demonstrations. Many locals attended and... 更多
