We loved our hike at Tsankawi! The views are awesome of distant mountains, rock formations, cave dwellings and drawings on cave walls! There are two ladders on each end that bring you to Mesa trails which have wild flowers , cactus and pottery shreds! It only takes about an hour and half to explore and take photos of this lovely... 更多
We had no idea what to expect from this site. A little put off that the park service wanted $20 (per car load) but we went in. What a hike! You walk in paths in the soft rocks that were created by the people living there 600+ years ago. At times a little daunting, but not so much that we... 更多
Living in New Mexico, as I did for 5 years, you get to do something different every weekend if you want. This site I returned to frequently, wanting to show out of town guests etc. Not too difficult, safe with a bit of common sense, but yet a bit of cliff drama.Maybe not for children without leash. Beautiful views, ancient... 更多
Tsankawi is a detached unit of Bandelier about 15 miles east. It has a nice trail going up to the top of a mesa with ladders for the steepest part. At a leisurely pace (read: with people of various ages) the trail takes about 1 1/2 hours. Most would think it's not worth the fee, but if you've been at... 更多
This historic site and trail are part of the Bandlier National Monument. A nice easy trail to follow travels up the Mesa to certain sites where inhabitants once lived. The sign and parking lot are sometimes missed as peop hurry from Bandlier to their next site. Slow down, it's worth the hike.
We've been to the main Bandelier NM many times but never stopped at the Tsankawi Unit which is East of White Rock off Highway 4. What a surprise! It's a hidden gem filled with scenic beauty, historical and cultural interest and a unique hiking experience. It's a bit confusing about the parking fee as one can use their pass from... 更多
This is an interesting 45 minute to 90 minute walk. The path is narrow at points and may be challenging for larger people. The ladders are not too challenging and generally it is ok for children. The parking fee is $20 which is outrageous. Combine this with something else so you can stretch the parking fee.
Tsankawi is lost in the shadow of Bandolier National Park that is bigger and just past Tsankawi. But Tsankwi has very interesting components that are enjoyed not with lots of others but with a small group or by oneself. The area is beautiful and what remains gives an interesting picture of how the site was used and the petroglyphs are... 更多
If you like an upward gradual climb and are ready to walk through some narrow pathways and climb up and down ladders then this is the hike for you. You have a great Scenic view all the way up. It is peaceful and beautiful. There is a parking fee and there are restrooms and a water fountain at the start... 更多
