A beautiful creek loaded with history. Hiking along the creek was a great break to a hot afternoon. I loved the scenery and this was not a very well advertised part of the park.
I'm sure that the creek is not as wide as it was in 1862 but the Burnside Bridge over Antietam Creek is able to transport you back in time to 1862. Making sure we went to see the creek added to understanding the military strategy on both sides of the opposing armies. Must stop when in Sharpsburg to see the... 更多
Camped for a night at this C&O Canal campground. It is located a few hundred yards north of where Antietam Creek enters the Potomac River. It is a "walk in" campground. There is vehicle parking on side of road. You then walk your gear across the C&O canal to about 20 campsites located between canal and river. The sites are... 更多
It's nice to look at and peaceful, but I wouldn't say there is anything really special about this place. Nothing jumped out at me to say "you should definitely go here." Go if you want to waste time waiting for your pizza to get done or whatever. Relax while listening to the water.
Great place to visit if your a Civil War buff or just see a beautiful place. Well kept and if your desire a great tour of the battlefield is presented by the Rangers at the Visitor's Center.
A very kayakable or canoeable creek nearly year round. Try putting in Devil's Backbone Park on Rte#68 and take-out at the Potomac River (13 miles). A nice combination of woodland scenery, flatwater, mild rapids (class 1-2) and a nice wave-train just north of the Potomac. Very quiet trip, not crowded, just a few fellow kayakers and fishermen. The water is... 更多
Great place to go and sit and take it all in. Also great place to go tubing and canoeing. Nice clean creek. You see the creek throughout your time on the battlefield.
This area is a quieter and not as crowded part of Antietam, but offers nice views, several bridges, and has a nice relaxing stream and creek. A good place to take some to gt away from it all.
The Antietam battlefield monument was tremendous by itself but the cemetery serves visible proof of the tremendous cost of human... 更多
