The beginning is a little steep but the rest is easy. You have views almost immediately and they get better as you go. There are a few pillboxes along the trail - some stop at just one, some keep going. The best time to go is early for sunrise. Less people and truly amazing views!
My family likes to go on this hike about once a month. We have a friend who lives on the street so we can park at their house, but parking is a huge issue! Since President Obaman went on this hike years ago, it's become even more popular than ever. It's a fairly easy hike with some moderate areas, like... 更多
We were up early (the body takes a long time to adjust to the time change) so decided to hike up to the pill boxes. We rounded the point between Kailua and Lanikai right a sunrise and made our way to the pillbox trail head. Nothing on Oahu is very well marked so if you find the gate to the... 更多
The trail up to the pillboxes is steep, so make sure you have good shoes. The views from them are amazing. You can see the ocean, and the mokes, and from the highest pillbox, you have views of the surrounding area. Parts of the trail are rocky and slippery, and you have to do some scrambling, so just be prepared.
First, I loved this hike!! I had read the reviews but this hike was harder than I imagined. Finding it wasn't easy, but luckily we asked someone in the area and they pointed us toward the starting point. The first part of the hike worried me and you had a pretty good vertical climb at times. Thank goodness for the... 更多
great work out, challenging hike with killer views.. this gets crowded and sometimes parking around the neighborhood is hard to come by..good hiking shoes and water bottle is needed.
This hike is one of my favorites because of the tremendous views. The hike isn't difficult (but will require good traction on the soles of your shoes) and it isn't a particularly long hike either. But the views are simply beautiful. The pillboxes are cool too, take some time to read up on them so you know why they're there,... 更多
As a resident of Lanikai, I hope you will enjoy your hike and view. However, please pack your trash, keep your voices down, park responsibly in the neighborhood and know that there are no restroom facilities. Thank you.
My wife and daughter went on this hike and loved the view. The trail is well worn and can be slippery, especially if wet. There are sections that are steep and worn smooth and careful attention is required both ascending and descending. They spent only about an hour and forty-five minutes and only visited the first pillbox. They could see... 更多
Fantastic views, steep hike, windy! Definitely a MUST if you can manage the nearly vertical hike up. Give it a go...just got slow, and enjoy the bliss at the top!
The entrance is a bit steep, and can be slippery if it's wet. You can't really do this hike on a wet day, because there are some steep, slippery spots. Be sure to wear the correct shoes. We saw kids on the hike, but this isn't the most kid-friendly hike. Some of the kids didn't like sections of the hike... 更多
This is one of the best experiences we had in Oahu. The trail begins with a steep incline with loose gravel but things get easier after that. It takes about 25 minutes to the first pillbox and short hike to the 2nd one. There is a 3rd and rather small pillbox farther away. This is where we turned around. The... 更多
Definitely do this hike if you're in the Kailua area. It's a pretty easy hike... it is all up hill but its well worth it. You'll have a great view a both bunkers. If you get there early enough you'll find close parking, if not you'll have to walk pretty far from the starting location.
We went on 3 hikes while staying in Kailua (Diamond Head, Manoa Falls were the others) and this was personally my favorite hike. The scenery around you is amazing, every view is photograph-worthy. There is also a thrilling element to the hike because of the height (if you're VERY afraid of heights this may not be the hike for you,... 更多
This hike is short and relatively challenging (it's slightly steep, but the real challenge is that the dirt is VERY loose). Make sure you wear some shoes with good tread and take your footing carefully. It is very sunny, no shade, so wear your sunscreen. Unlike many other hikes, right from the start you get a beautiful view of the... 更多
