Didn't have much time to stop since our destination was the pipiwai trail past Hana. I do recommend picking stops you want to see before hand. Based on different reviews we stopped at the Garden of Eden Arboretum. I cannot figure out why this was recommended, we were entirely UNDERWHELMED!!!! We had to pay $15 apiece and it was so... 更多
This trip to Hana; as much as it is promoted, has it's good scenery, with a few shortcomings. The roads are good, but require patience and good driving skills. As much as the sights are promoted it is extremely difficult to pull over or find a parking area to do so. This trip takes a full day. Don't be fooled... 更多
I was concerned about driving ourselves since my husband’s driving is always a source of friction under the best of circumstances. I have to say that driving yourself is really the best way. It allows you to stop wherever you want for as long as you want which is great on such a long trip. There were more guard rails... 更多
Your first time driving it may make you want to white knuckle the approximately 3 + hour round trip drive. The second you will appreciate it more & you will begin to relax, although I don't think anyone gets through it without a couple of jolts to the old nervous system. Ours was with a school bus coming around a... 更多
If you are adventurous and willing to drive an unpaved single lane highway take the southern route, State Road 31. The road is treacherous so if you are faint of heart or in a hurry choice the northern route. The views are spectacular!
We rented a Harley while in Maui for our 5th Anniversary. One day we experienced the Road to Hana....so much fun in the open air on the back of a bike! Take your time, enjoy the sights, smells and scenery. Don't be in a rush - too much to see on the road to be in a hurry to get... 更多
Beautiful but tedious drive. Unless your "thing" is gorgeous scenery, you will be disappointed in this drive. It takes all day, but in my estimation, is well worth the trip. Go past Hana to Haleakala National Park at Seven Pools. Hike to ocean (.4 mile) and also up Pipiwili Trail (about 2 miles each way) to double waterfalls, bamboo forest... 更多
We have ridden this on road bikes on several occasions and it is a great ride. We started at twin falls, and road from there. First, if you don't want to get wet, skip this. It frequently rains, it is a rain forest after all. It has rained both times I have gone, but it is warm and none of... 更多
We did a ton of research prior to leaving and had a plan which worked out well. We wanted only to do 3 stop. Seven Sacred Pool water falls, black sand beach and banana bread at Halfway to Hana. The banana bread was o.k. I have a recipe that is way better so not sure what the fuss is all... 更多
For those who get motion sickness, be prepared! The windy roads will make you sick. However, if you take medicine you'll be fine. Don't let that get to you because the views are amazing. Check it out!
