This walk takes you along the tops of the lithified cliffs near Shipwreck Beach. Lithified means that the sand, through a compression process, has been turned to stone and this makes for some groovy looking bluffs. The walk is easy -- mostly flat and on sandy terrain or level stone - - and the views of the ocean are lovely....
Short hike without a defined trail and best approached from Shipwreck Beach. Beautiful rock formations. This is definately not a touristy place. While walking to the beach we had our first taste of locals. We saw a turtle in the water and found some nice shells.
We were able to hike up to the cliffs past Shipwreck Beach and got to experience the gorgeous scenery near Poipu Bay Golf Course. Later we golfed at this course and were able to see the views from the other side - spectacular!
You can hike to this area from Shipwreck beach; along the way you are actually walking on a path adjacent to a golf course. The cliffs are picturesque and the view of the ocean below is pretty nice, too!
This is easily the best thing you could do near Poipu in my opinion. When you take the trail of Lithified cliffs, it reminds a person of Ireland's cliffs. It is spectacular to see the waves crashing against the cliffs, with the perfect blue skies. There is an area early in the hike that looks like there are birds nests...
