We stayed in Sheridan,Wyoming, but drove up to Dayton, Wyoming to start our trip across the mountains. The mountains were so green and beautiful, and the fir trees and beautiful wild flowers. It was very nice and cool, and there was still spots of snow around us. We felt like we were on the Ponderosa Ranch from the show "Bonanza".... 更多
We drove throughout the southern half of the Bighorn National Forest and were charmed by the beauty: aspens, evergreens, lakes, creeks, waterfalls, resorts and an outdoor chapel in the woods. We drove through last fall when there was a dusting of snow and again this summer. Just spectacular.
Beautiful drive though a bit hairy on the east side if you are on highway 14. Stopped at Shelby lake and Shell Falls. Beautiful and clean and a good place for pictures and hiking. Driving through but the camping areas looked very nice. Lots of difference in the geology from east to west.
We had planned to drive 14 and 14A, but when we got to 14A, the road was closed due to an accident. We did see sheep and moose along the drive, and even experience a little snow at the summit. The road is well maintained, especially on the Western side, with plenty of places to pull over.
While we had just spent the last week traveling through the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and cowboy country, this was still beautiful to see. We did not stay since we had already seen so much scenery, but just drove through.
Drove into the Bighorn mountains. We stopped on some of the scenic overviews and they were worth it. Ate a picnic lunch near Sibley and walked the trail while families fished and canoed in the small lake nearby. Explored other areas by car and by foot. Clean bathrooms available. Absolutely beautiful. Saw a moose and her young calf.
We just completed our stay in the Bighorns and have plans in the works to visit again. This area is not as populated as other parks which makes it so much more enjoyable. If horseback riding in the area I recommend a gps and the map from National Geographic as the park service trail map leaves a lot to be... 更多
Drove through last August on the way out to Yellowstone Park, mush less crowded and peaceful!!! I agree, take the time to stop and see the sights, get out of your car, take a walk, take some photos, make some memories!!
