I've been to plenty of museums that focus on one particular style of art, but I can't say I've ever been in one like the Grohmann Museum where the focus is on one subject: work. Most of the art is done in the realism style, with the odd exception of one modern art painting on the first floor. The sculptures... 更多
I lived in Milwaukee for 10 years and was a member of the Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM) which is wonderful. The Grohmann is not far away but lessor known. It is a must see jewel of for art lovers. It has paintings and sculptures relating to work and industry. I was totally surprised at the quality and size of the... 更多
Please allow 3-4 hours for your visit. The building is beautiful with a mosaic floor in the entryway and a mural on the ceiling 3 floors up. The tour starts on the 4th floor (roof) with very life-like bronze statues of working men & women - Iron workers, miners, farmers, fisherman etc. Also a view of the Stained Glass collection.... 更多
My husband is an alum of MSOE . It was a wonderful surprise to find out that alumni AND family are free. The museum itself is phenomenal. Some of the paintings are so breathtaking they look like a photograph. It took about 2 hours to tour. Highly encourage to visit.
This was really a surprise. This collection of art relating to labor is amazing and so well curated. The works are at once sad - to see the difficulty and terrible conditions people and animals had to endure to make a living centuries ago - and awe inspiring - to see the incredible accomplishments made without power machinery etc. The... 更多
Museum has a very masculine feel with deep blues and burnt reds. Goes well with the industrial art work. Painting, photograph and sculpture are all represented. Medicine, mining and construction just a couple of the themes represented in the art. Be hard pressed to name a more stunning museum. Staff & Curators are very friendly and approachable. And if you... 更多
This is one of my favorite museums ever with a history of labor paintings and sculptures. Don't miss the sculptures on the roof. I think it was like $5! Definitely good for a rainy afternoon!
This museum has an amazing number of paintings of great quality. But what I take issue with is that it is so Euro-centric. I understand that the exhibit is one person's collection and he has the right to collect what he is chooses. But the museum idealizes work. There should be a sociological context: how about addressing working conditions, pollution,... 更多
I really enjoyed my visit to the Grohmann today -it is a really beautiful museum, location, and collection. It really seems like an integral part of the MSOE campus, with students and professors coming and going throughout my visit. Especially when the students were leaving class it was a little noisy, which some visitors might find distracting, but I thought... 更多
This was the perfect museum to visit...taking less than 90 minutes to tour. The staff was very informative. The museum itself was very comfortable and the art is delightful.
