We were just driving through Dickeyville when we spotted this place and just had to turn around and check it out. It is amazing to think that one man built this place in five years. There are so many surprises to see with all of the different materials that he used. It is definitely worth the stop.
From the description it sounds as though it could be a bit crude, but in actuality it was pretty impressive. I cannot imagine the number of man hours spent in the construction of all the various structures which surround the grotto. Whatever your religious views, just come and appreciate the uniqueness of the place.
What an amazing place and when you think of the story behind it what an inspiration the Priest who dedicated his time for 5 years to build it is, no plans just divine gidance. Well worth the time to stop
Grottos like this are truly one of a kind. I stopped by here on my way back from Dubuque and it was very much worth it. It's so incredible how little gems like this in the middle of nowhere can really stand out.
We recently went on a ride to see some fall color and stopped at this Grotto by accident. What a beautiful tribute to God and Country. .i wish they had more literature on the how and why this was built,It was quite inspiring.
This is a nice little surprise for a small town. It is amazing the time and effort put into creating this tribute to God. It was fascinating to see what they choose to include in this grotto and is a great example of period art. Both my husband and I enjoyed it and wandering on the site. FUN!
The Dickeyville Grotto is a must see. What a brilliant and beautiful piece of work. I have driven past a few times and finally decided to stop. Located in a great little town. Pretty ride to get here. After we went across the river into Iowa on the Cassville ferry. Fun day
Short stop that is not far off Hwy. 151. Check out some fascinating stone work. Image what you could do if you had a vision and a lot of time on your hands!
My wife and I passed through Dickeyville on the second stage of a road trip and never expected to find anything like the Grotto. It was really, really hot but we still spent a good hour or more walking around the site and marvelling at the decorative art work and memorials. It's not a place you would necessarily travel miles... 更多
I have loved stopping by the Dickeyville Grotto since I was a kid. Recently I dropped in to see how this place was doing. While a bit ragged around the edges, there are still some cool sites to see. Much of the display focuses on Jesus, the disciples, new testament stories, and stations of the cross. There is a secondary... 更多
