On our way to Galena, Il we stopped here because we had heard about it. It was more amazing than we expected. Among the other interesting things that we saw, were birdcages made of various materials such as shells, stones.
Not as extensive as the grotto in Rudolph, WI, but very intricate with shells, porcelain, geodes, stalactites, and many other momentos cemented into the constructions. There are multiple shrines on the property, with gardens and sidewalks in between. A nice quiet place for a walk. There is also a very good religious item and souvenir shop on property.
We were driving home from Dubuque and noticed The Grotto so we stopped to check it out. At first we just thought it was gonna be a small display, but the entire property is filled with creations of rocks, gems, shells, and other materials. It is really quite amazing what the priest created, and the history behind it. We want... 更多

One man built and decorated 5 or 6 differently themed "installations" for lack of a better word. They are all detailed in colored stones, beads, shells and stones. It is amazing that one person could do... 更多
The photos correctly capture the sights to be seen. This is a Christian shrine, which reminded me of the works by Gaudi. I understand the priest that started this shrine was of German heritage. I don't know where he found the variety of rocks used in the building of this shrine. There were lots of petrified samples to my amazement.
My husband and I decided on a road trip vacation this year. We were driving Scenic Highway US 61 when he noticed an unusual looking structure next to the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville, Wisconsin. The day was sunny and warm with no humidity so we got out and prowled around for probably a couple of hours looking at... 更多
