The Old Stone Church has been around since 1796 and has lots of history. We really enjoyed walking around the graveyard.
Old Stone is the oldest church west of the Alleghenies in continuous use. If you like churches that eschew the ornate, be sure to visit. The sanctuary is a model of Presbyterian elegant plainness and simplicity. In that aspect, It reminds me a bit of the Shakers. Be sure to check out the attached cemetery.
I went to see the historic side of the church, and God's people, but never expected such a warm welcome! Incredible church with all sorts history! But there are special services throughout the year that are something not to be missed. Especially Christmas Eve. Some people really enjoy the old cemetery and around Halloween it is often part of haunted tours.
The thing I appreciated most about visiting this old church was the fact that it's the longest continually operating Christian church in U.S. When you keep that in mind and look inside, the simplicity of the structure is more meaningful.
