The museum curator is friendly, courteous, very welcoming and passionate about his craft. He will make you feel at home and is generous in explaining the history of the museum. I was very disappointed the museum was not open. According to web site it was supposed to be open, however, it is currently, as of August 15, 2015, closed Saturday, Sumday and Monday.
One of the most interesting Museums I have been to. This museum changes it's exhibition frequently. The hours are not ideal, but well worth the visit. Manuscripts and letters signed by the historical figures who authored them. Something not to be missed!
Adjacent to Tacoma's Weight Park and Seymour Conservatory, the Karpeles is a terrific little gem of a stop. The variety of important and interest documents, letters, manuscripts, and autographs is always fascinating. While the items on display are not large in number, they are so valuable and interesting.
We had spent time at the Tacoma Art Museum so decided to include a return visit to the Karpeles. It was the highlight of our afternoon. Charles Dickens awaited us---what a treat to see words written in his own hand AND original illustrations found in some of his works!
