If you're in the downtown Tacoma area near the Museum of Glass / Chihuly Bridge and the Tacoma Art Museum, you should put this building on your list of quick stopovers. It has some nice Chihuly glass and interesting architectural details. 30 min should be plenty.
Beautiful old train station restored to all it's glory! Beautiful art glass exhibit but don't forget your picture ID or you won't be able to enter.
This former train depot has been turned into the prettiest courthouse I have ever seen. Not only is the architecture beautiful but inside are a handful of Chihuly sculptures. You are able to take photos, with restrictions.
Union Station is a beautiful old train station with yet another Chihuly centerpiece. Sadly, it has been turned into a federal courthouse, so it isn't as magnificent as it could be. If you want to see what can be done with an old Union Station, go to Kansas City.
Recently went to a memorial for a retired dispatcher who I had worked with when the Northern Pacific Railroad had a dispatcher center here. I also arrived and departed on trains from this station since 1950 as a passenger. The station has been down-sized, but it is still a beautiful place to visit.
