Lovely walk out. Not your typical sandy beach, bring a good pair of sneakers or hiking shoes. As with more shores along the sound and strait, it's quite rocky. The walk out is more than worth it though. The volunteers are very welcoming and friendly. Touring this lighthouse is certainly something that should be on your list!
It is 11 miles round trip.. Plan accordingly.. We did this at low tide..it took us 1.5 hours each way. We went to the top of the lighthouse.. Beautiful views...also when you get out to the lighthouse it is a wildlife refuge. We saw a bald eagle eating on a piece of driftwood... Amazing!!!!!!
A day trip to the lighthouse is an experience worth the hike. The ten mile adventure should be done at low tide if you don't want to get your feet wet. Once we arrived at the lighthouse we were greeted by the volunteer "lighthouse keepers" who pay a nominal fee for the opportunity to stay a week on the property.... 更多
This is a beautiful place to visit. We didn't have 6 hours to walk all the way to the lighthouse and back (although my son really wanted to and go up in the lighthouse), but, the beach was lovely and we made driftwood forts. Wish we had seen some seals on our visit, but, we did not. It's a really... 更多
First I would like to say that the Dungeness Spit is one of my favorite places in the entire world. Seriously. It is the largest natural "spit" (sand bar) in the U.S. Amazingly, it is growing by 13 feet every year. It is 5.5 miles long so if you hike out to the lighthouse at the tip and then back... 更多
This visit is well worth your time.Arrive early to be able to park. It only costs 3 dollars. you could spend all day or a few hours. lots and lots of photo opps. Lots and lots to see. Follow written advice if you are planning on walking out to the light house.
The lighthouse is beautiful and a nice place to visit but the long walk there -- and back! -- is challenging for the very young, older or less-abled bodies. The first time I hiked there I was in really poor sandals that chewed up my feet. This time I wore good footwear but I'm 71 and not in top shape,... 更多
My husband and I hiked the Dungeness Spit to the New Dungeness Lighthouse. The lighthouse can also be reached by kayak. Tours are given by the volunteer keepers. The artifacts and historical displays are interesting. You can climb tothe top of the Lighthouse for a great view of the area.water, restrooms and a picnic area are available. I really enjoyed... 更多
This was quite a hike - 11 miles roundtrip. But my wife and I were glad to have done it. You have to pay attention to the tides, but in the summer, it works out well as low tide tends to be from morning to early afternoon. After making it to the lighthouse - we were the first ones there... 更多
