There are several nice trails in "the Arb" as WWU students call it. I think that all newcomers should at least try to make it up to the watchtower. The Sehome Hill Arboretum is a very magical place, with a lot of secrets (the shrine, dojo, swings). Definitely do some exploring, especially if you're new to WWU or the area!
Enjoyed this trail up near Western Washington University. Peaceful place to reflect. Loved the look out tower and the tunnel blasted in the rock.
My WWU daughter took her old parents up this trail on a warm summer day in August. It was lush green with many switchbacks to make the hike bearable. The viewpoint was a nice place to enjoy the sweeping view of the bay. Well worth the aching knees!
