This was a last minute destination for me. I drove past the sign and decided to check it out. It is in a beautiful setting, very peaceful, and serene. The visitors center is fairly new and has an interactive timeline of events for the battle, as well as a nice variety of books and other items for purchase. The driving... 更多

A very nice and explanatory visitors center, with a lot of background about the battle for Petersberg and Lee;s withdrawal and how the Union intercepted the various forces. The battleground and surroundings can also be seen on a scenic drive around the park.

Our visit to this site was great. The Visitor's Center staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The park is beautiful and features three distinct sites. Each site is marked with information signs and markers. The High Bridge site was spectacular. We visited all three sites and learned so much. We took time to have a picnic lunch at one of the... 更多

This is a great place to visit if you are really into Civil War history. It is an important and relatively unknown battle that influenced Lee's decision to surrender. There is no fee for visiting. A plus is that the grounds are absolutely beautiful. There is a small trail that you can go on, so bring water and bug spray.... 更多

The story of the very brutal, bloody, ferocious fighting at Saylor's Creek is one of the least known horrors of our Civil War. The park ranger who spent more than two hours with us had SO much information, and was a true historian, not just a tour guide! The Civil War summary in the visitors center is impressive, and puts... 更多
Thank you for your enthusiastic review about your visit to Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. 更多
I stopped at the Sailor's Creek Battlefield last April on my way to Appomattox. As a coincidence my timing had me there for the 150th Anniversary of the battle which provided me the opportunity to witness events as they occurred during Lee's retreat from Richmond en-route to Appomattox. The park is open everyday except for certain holidays and free to... 更多
Few people this side of Appomattox knew about the existence of Sailor's (or Saylor's) Creek Battlefield Historical State Park until Chris Calkins, a park ranger who used to operate the visitors center at Five Forks on the Petersburg battlefield, came on board to renovate the site and Lee's Retreat, Virginia's first Civil War trail, put Holt's Corner and Hillsman House... 更多
I knew about Sailor's (Sayler's) Creek, but hadn't been near enough to ever stop by before. This was a well documented battlefield, fairly well preserved and well taken care of... as a part of the "Lee's Retreat" series near Appomattox Court House. The museum is well done, if smallish. The folks at the desk know their stuff. Give yourself at... 更多
We visited for the 150th Re-enactment and had a great time. My 8 year old son was quite impressed... this is the first re-enactment that we've been to and it didn't disappoint!
