We were very lucky to walk alongside this canal firstly in Todmorden then Hebden Bridge and finally into Mytholmroyd we had glorious sunshine . The walk was peaceful and beautiful . We did meet folks along the way but for the most part it was not busy. You need good walking shoes or trainers and dress appropriately for the weather... 更多
The canal still has its ugly bits where people leave dog muck and rubbish lying around and you get the odd grump who either thinks they own the tow path (both fishermen, walkers, runners and cyclist alike) but if you can look beyond all this its lovely and peaceful in places, lots of wildlife and views to see. its an... 更多
This was one walk that I would repeat, possibly in Autumn when the leaves change. We started at Todmorden (good for coffee and cakes) having arrived by train and then walked the nine miles or so to Rochdale where we picked up the tramway to Manchester. Sandwiches were acquired at Littleborough which is at the canal summit. We crossed from... 更多
strolling round Todmerdon its a very pretty town lots of flower pots every where on a sunny day looks so nice. caught sight of the canal on the bridge lovley place to sit and relax right next to a pub had a really nice day
As a angler this part of the canal is pleasurable and very clean. The tow paths are wide and no steps to negotiate. There are large tench carp good roach and eels though I have never caught one. Its free as a Salford anglers member, you just need to join for free via the website. Very picturesque with easy access.... 更多
In past few years the canal is looking a little more tidier and I took a stroll with my 4 month old along the canal to go up to hollingworth lake..it was a beautiful sunny day..and was quite busy for a Monday afternoon..people on their bikes and groups of friends enjoying the sunshine..
Its 3 days to complete the whole walk. i suggest east to west as its easier to link with train services at Sowerby Bridge, Walsden/Todmorden, Mills Hill and Manchester. Plenty of industrial history and stunning views of the Pennines.
The Rochdale Canal must be one of the secrets of the north west. The mills are no longer dark and satanic but blend in to the picturesque landscape. A 3day walk starting from near the Piccadilly Station in Manchester and I have never seen so much wild life. A cyclist in front of me stops dead to watch in wonder... 更多
If you are traveling to Manchester and having a break here, please take the time to look at our countryside. There are many canals in this area, many are still being brought back to how they used to be, but Rochdale Canal has had many years if renovation and us looking perfect. The canal boats moor up along the way... 更多
A walk in the Mills Hill Moston area on this canal finds it being maintained but the amount of litter is horrendous. The locals obviously have no pride in their area. The amount of wildlife is amazing in such an area. A pleasant enough walk but not for a revisit (This stretch at least - other parts are magnificent
