This is a much smaller battlefield than I expected. It's one loop with a few pull offs where you can stop and listen to a recorded message. You can either drive or walk. Cold Harbor is close to Richmond, so if you only have an hour or so, you can squeeze it in.
Fantastic experience, full of history. I did know of the battle, but not very much. I wish I read about it before I went I think it would have really help put everything in prospective. I highly recommend walking the trails(The Extended Trail) it was amazing to see all the trenches along with walking the exact trails that many solider... 更多
We visited the Cold Harbor Battlefield on our way to the Outer Banks. We were traveling with dogs, and this was perfect as it was primarily outdoors. This battlefield has amazingly preserved trenches from the war. Standing next to the trenches really helps you imagine a day in the life of a soldier. Each of the three sites has information... 更多
Stopped by this battlefield while heading back to North Carolina. My 5x great grandfather fought here so I've always wanted to visit. There wasn't much to see here in the way of artifacts and monuments so in that respect it was disappointing. We did enjoy the walking trail though. Its a nice walk through the battlefield with several stops along... 更多
If you have ever wanted to experience the feeling of being alone in the Civil War, this is the place you need to visit. The day we visited, there was one other person in the battlefield area. The NPS Visitor's Center features an electric map featuring troop movements in both the 1862 and 1864 battles. The map makes the battle... 更多
This is a very good place to see one of the bloodiest battles of the civil wars. The trails are well marked and there are signs along the way explaining what you are looking at. Even though I live nearby, it is a good place to take a walk on a nice evening.
I can remember visiting this battlefield when I was in Girl Scouts to learn the history of this local battlefield. It's a great stop if you are in the Richmond area and are interested in Civil War history. It's a small place, so don't go with the expectation that you're visiting somewhere like Gettysburg. There is a small visitors center... 更多
For anyone with even a passing interest in American and Civil War history, Cold Harbor is a must visit when in the Richmond area. I would often take my toddler son here to walk the trails. During that time we were often passed by people waking dogs or folks running the trails. The park service rangers are always nice and... 更多
Because the South pushed the North out of here and then the North pushed back through here there is an overlap of events in an already confusing battle field area. It is hard to get a picture of what happened in your head. But in this small building is an electric map which shows how the Northern forces were pushing... 更多
