If you have never been on a swinging bridge - then try this one. It doesn't 'swing'...it just rolls a bit when you walk on it. Beautiful view of the river.........nice and relaxing. And when you are there..........go down the street...and visit the town. If you're hungry....go to the Swinging Bridge Cafe. Ain't fancy.....but good food and good people.

We visited the Swinging Bridge with a group we were camping with over Labor Day weekend. The views were gorgeous and the folks canoeing and kayaking on the James River made it a special scene. This is a nice attraction near downtown Buchanan. A lot of people worry about the warning -- "no more than 3 persons on the bridge at one time" -- but I see groups of a dozen or more. It is suspended by steel cables but probably worth the caution.
This bridge is a very unique and old bridge, dating back to before the civil war. But interestingly, the confederate forces came and burned every other bridge down, but not this bridge.
