I can get overload in museums so I tend to pick a couple of things to look at rather than trying to see everything. The Athenaeum is the town library with a small free art gallery. Locals, including the Fairbanks family, brought stuff home from European visits and donated them There were some commissions from American artists. Some of the... 更多
St. Johnsbury is not a particularly attractive vacation destination but if you happen to be in the neighborhood and appreciate history, architecture and art, especially of the Victorian era, then the lovely boulevard that is Main Street is well-worth exploring, especially its book-ends of the public library (the Atheneum) at one end and the Fairbanks Museum at the other. Main... 更多
What a beautiful library! The architecture is great, which balconies of books and spiral staircases; and the highlight is the artwork you see in the back room. Make sure to borrow a copy of the guidebook at the front desk.
We saw the wee maintain building and it was open. A library, beautyfull one. The natural light comes in by numerous windows and the Domes of Yosemite is something to see with the day light . You have older books as new edited ones. A place to sit and read in the calm, to enjoy the news paper or a... 更多
My husband and I took the scenic route from Stowe after reading about this place in Fodors. It's an old but currently operational library that holds a fabulous art collection - it's free but we gave a donation. Pick up one of the books (free of charge to borrow) that describes each piece in the collection so you can appreciate... 更多
The Athenaeum (say that five times fast!) is a cute and welcoming place. It serves as the town's library, but there is a large room with beautiful artwork to look at.
Step back in time when entering. Beautiful wood work and an amazing 19th century art gallery in the back with a stunning Bierstadt landscape of Yosemite that dominates the room.
This is actually the public library, but the collection of art work inside is amazing, especially in the gallery in the rear of the building, where there was a charming docent who shared her enthusiasm for the various paintings. The entire building is amazing, with woodwork everywhere, multiple wooden spiral staircases, etc. It felt like stepping back in time, the... 更多
