Come in the fall to enjoy the beautiful foliage. A really good family destination. A great learning experience. Camp at Calvin Coolidge State Park. Your tent or their lean to its a quite relaxing experience. Some great views from the campground.
We decided that today's "something" would be touring the Coolidge Homestead. You start at the visitors center where you are introduced to the Coolidge legacy through a video. Not to be missed is the terrific interactive museum off the movie room. The small village appears almost exactly as it did on the night of his inauguration. As Vice President, upon... 更多
They've built a fine new museum but the real attraction is teh guided tour through what was the original village where Coolidge was born and lived... his first home, second home and summer white house, his father's store and work shed, the cheese factory and church. The guide is pleasant and knowledgeable.
This State run Historic site has the task of preserving the buildings associated with President Coolidge's younger days including birth, boyhood home and the home he was sworn into office of the President of the United States when Harding died. A bit of a hill, what is not in Vermont, from the overview building up to the barns, stores, church... 更多
As a U.S. History teacher, I try to stop at historical places while on vacation. I was up in Manchester, Vermont and chose to drive the 45 minutes or so to Calvin Coolidge's Birthplace. Didn't know what to expect, but it exceeded any expectations I have. It is a cute town preserved to the 1920s. And the cheese factory is... 更多
We didn't intent to stop at President Coolidge's birthplace and home, but we are glad we did. The area has been meticulously preserved so many of the buildings and much of the area appear as they did years ago. A great place to take kids and the tour on the hour is worth the wait.
Great cheese made right on the premises. They weren't making it when we visited, but we did talk to the cheese maker. Coolidge's father used to make cheese in the same building. All furnishings in the building are authentic. You'll spend about 2 hours. Don't forget to buy a Moxie.
Having read recent books on Coolidge and that era plus having visited sites in Northampton, this was a must-see for me. The area is just beautiful and there is enough to study for a whole day if you wish. There is a guided walking tour that is just right. The overall tone and flavor of the site seemed for me... 更多
