I drove to Wire Pass Trailhead on Oct 17, 2016. It hadn't rained for a week before this day and the road was dry and smooth. I made it to the trailhead with a Kia Rio without any problems
Last year we were on this road to Wire Pass and almost bounced to death. There were so many deep (up to 14") ruts and exposed boulders that it took double the amount of time to get where we were going. This year, however, even though the first part of October was very rainy, it was entirely different. It had... 更多
headed to the buckskin wash trailhead. hiked 2 miles up the wash and found amazing rock formations! Had the place to ourselves... lots to do and see up this road despite not getting Wave permits. Now, it IS an unimproved road-- you will need high clearance and if it's rained? don't even try it.
This is a dirt road that can take you to Bucksin Gulch, the Wave, White Pocket & more. They're awesome destinations and you can make some bits of the road in a normal car (not sure how but you can). But do yourself a favour & rent a guide with or rent an ATV for this drive, especially if you... 更多
Be careful when accessing this famous dirt road. Street vehicles will NOT make it, use a guide much safer, dont get caught out...it could cost you your life!!
the destinations are fantastic but I'm reviewing the road and why they cant blacktop a road that they make over $5 to 7 thousand dollars a day on permits for the wave and other coyote buttes hikes. that's over $150;000 a month. that's around 2 million a year. I think they could lay 8 miles of road with that income.
The only reason that you would have to travel this is road is to get to the Wave, in the unlikely event that you are able to secure a permit for it. I drove both the Cottonwood Canyon road and the House Rock Valley road on consecutive days. The former is worth traveling; the latter is not. As I said,... 更多
Yeah it's rough and dusty. You may wish you had 4 wheel drive and a little extra clearance. Not a ton of rocks so that second spare tire may not be necessary. Washboard driving is the largest pain on this road. Just go slow. Like I said, the road gets you to what you want to see- and the condition... 更多
House Rock Valley Road is a dirt road located off the Hwy 89 in Southern UTAH between KANAB and BIG WATER. It is very rough even if it is dry but it can be almost impassible if wet. It is strongly suggested to drive SUV. Most people drive this road to get to other roads within VERMILLION CLIFFS NATIONAL MONUMENT... 更多
Drove this yesterday in a 2 wheel drive SUV. Bumpy dirt road in a beautiful place. Just drive slow(15-25MPH) and you will be fine. Great way to get into backcountry in Vermillion Cliffs. Advise a last minute check at the visitor center about 5 miles before the turnoff (coming from Page) just to check on road conditions. As long as... 更多
