U-Dig-Fossils gives you a chance to let out your inner paleontologist. The road out to the location was gravel and at times a bit harrowing. We were in a low slung Chevy Sonic and did fine, but I wouldn't go if it was raining or muddy. Upon arrival you are given a bucket, some rock hammers and a short lesson... 更多
Having collected around the Devonian of the Mid-Continent, mainly around Sylvania, Ohio and Thedford/Arkona, Ontario, I've known of the Trilobites of the Wheeler Shale since I was young. Finally got here on a Road Scholar trip. Because this was a specia trip the folks at U-Dig/The Bug House excavated some material just before we started collecting. Knowing that you get... 更多
After spending the previous day hunting for geodes and topaz, we spent the next morning looking for trilobites. The the girls, ages 4, 5, and 6, and grandpa all had a great time. We came back with many trilobites. They supply the tools and help get you started. The young kids were free, so it wasn't too expensive for the... 更多
We could only make out of season due to our travel plans but they were very accommodating and the one on one service was brilliant thanks to Robin. She was very informative, showed us what we needed to do and help us prepare our wounderful discoveries.
We were going to dig on our own but for the money gave this a shot and so glad. Robin showed us how to dig and crack rocks, how to identify them, you get a ID sheet, tools and she even cut our pieces for us! So many trilobites. Potties were spotless. If they hadn't closed for the season we... 更多
I love going to U-dig. It has become one of my favorite day trip adventures. I have taken many friends and relatives many times over the last five years and they always love it especially the kids. It doesn't take long to find quite a few trilobites. Also, there is always someone friendly to help or give pointers. If your... 更多
My wife and I spent three days in Delta, Utah rock hounding. We are both in our 70s and not in particularly good shape, but we wanted to try finding fossils. U-Dig Fossils is run by the same family that runs the Bug-House in Delta. Bug house got its name because the people there help you find trilobites. One of... 更多
This a wonderful unique experience I think everyone should do! I thought we'd get out there and dig for 2 hours and hit the road to do other things....well I was so wrong, no one wanted to leave when the time came. We left with loads of trilobites big and small for everyone. I'm looking forward to returning a spending... 更多
Legendary site for fossil collectors, but anyone will find nice fossils. The hardest part of visiting this site is choosing what to leave behind since you will find more than you can haul out. Four hours is enough time to complete most fossil collector dreams. I have been here more than once and always had a wonderful time.
First, bring water. You are out in the desert. Second, be prepared to dig. They give you a hand pick axe and goggles. Third, expect to find lots of fossils. The stone is some kind of shale - a lake bed 300 million years ago. Trilobites are like crabs, and they molt. Most of the time the fossils you'll find... 更多
